What’s up down There? The Intelligent Gal’s Guide to Her Pelvic Floor

To Kegel or not to Kegel? That’s just one question many women have about their pelvic floors, along with: How do I know if I’m kegeling correctly? Should I steam the thing? Does it need maintenance like my car? What did my kid DO to it during delivery? What if I had a c-section, or never had kids? Statistics indicate that more than 1/3 of U.S. women have a Pelvic Floor Disorder, with nearly ¼ experiencing multiple issues that cause symptoms, yet ObGyn’s are not trained to assess pelvic floor musculature, and incontinence issues and prolapse surgeries are on the rise.

How’s a girl to know what’s up down there?

In this engaging 1-hour workshop you’ll learn the basics of your pelvic floor anatomy, what it does for you, the signs of dysfunction, along with a better understanding of how to keep it in good working order throughout your lifetime. Register in advance by purchasing tickets here on EventBrite. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if you’d like to participate in a few optional exercises.

Cost: $30 per person

Bees & Beekeeping: 101

Did you know Chicago is an AMAZING place for bees of all types?! Join Bike a Bee's Education Director Brittany Buckles to learn about honey bees, bumble bees, and how we can all help SAVE THE BEES!

This 1.5 hour class will cover the fascinating world inside of the honey bee hive and what beekeeping in Chicago is like. But we don't stop there... We believe saving the bees should begin with supporting native pollinators like mason bees, carpenter bees and bumblebees—including the federally endangered rusty patched bumble bee.

In this class there will be a presentation, a local honey tasting, all sorts of neat pictures and props, and an observation hive full of live bees! (safely behind glass, of course :)

We love all bees, and we want to help you fall in love, too!

Closing Reception: "Eat Your Heart Out: A delicious new body of work by Stina Joy Henslee"

Closing Reception: "Eat Your Heart Out: A delicious new body of work by Stina Joy Henslee"

Stina Henslee's latest body of work is an ode to the artist's love/hate relationship with food, something she says she has struggled with for most of her life. She writes, "My family lives to eat. Food is how we celebrate, but also how we drown sorrows and frustrations. Food is everywhere, and unavoidable, both literally and figuratively. No one can live without it. Food is at once beautiful, delicious, and emotional. For many of us, it's also all too easy to come by. Ours is a culture of consumption, but one with a mixed message delivered daily: indulge yourself - you deserve it (but only to an acceptable point)."

Throughout these pieces, Henlsee weaves themes of gluttony, labor, passion and waste contrasted with humorous anthropological creatures to portray her personal ruminations on the subject of food in today's society. These works continue the long history of food art, with acknowledgments to Arcimboldo, Maryk Ryden and Peregrin Honig for their inspiration.

Stina Henslee is a Chicago based artist and designer. She spent 1999 in Helsinki attending a fine arts school, and continued her arts education at Washington University in St. Louis where she graduated with a trifecta of impractical degrees: Printmaking, German, and Art History. As an artist, she continues to unlearn what she was taught; namely that all art should be conceptual, political, and
serious.

Opening reception: Saturday April 6 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Gallery hours: Saturday May 15 3:00 - 6:00 pm

Drink & Think : Sales

Ampersand presents Drink & Think, a free networking event to bring people together and learn something new! Join us for what will undoubtedly be the most laid-back networking event you've ever attended, and help us kick off Chicago's roof deck and patio season with some drinks and stimulating conversation. There will be wine, beer, and snacks, and most importantly, we'll be enjoying those drinks and snacks OUTDOORS. Hard to imagine after all these MONTHS of cold, right?

Before the mingling, we are excited for Angie Wing to give a presentation and sales training. You can read more about Angie right here. Here's what you can expect from Angie's presentation:

I spent ten years selling tens of millions of dollars in medical technology in the US and throughout Europe. The path to my career success was laid out in front of me, and if I played my cards right, I was headed for the top. But deep down something was just missing. I dreamt of having the freedom to live life on my own terms, to travel and have big adventures while creating my own empire (sound familiar, anyone?).

About a year ago, I decided to finally make the jump into full-time entrepreneurism and I’ve been teaching sales to entrepreneurs and small business owners ever since.

In working with so many entrepreneurs around the world and I've learned that they have a few things in common:

  • They want the freedom to live and work on their own terms, and they value this freedom above all else!

  • They love their work and (if they had a choice) they would just focus on what they love and never have to think about selling or getting new customers

  • Most of them HATE the idea of sales (but they realize that it’s a crucial missing ingredient in their business)

I firmly believe that sales should never feel pushy or aggressive, and I’m super passionate about teaching people how to sell in a way that feels good and is authentically aligned with who you are and what matters to you. In my workshop, I’ll teach you the principles of what I call “the New Sales” and I’ll provide 1:1 coaching to help you apply the principles to your individual business.

Come ready with your questions and unique challenges, I’ll be looking for volunteers to take the hot seat!
