Ampersand Cowork is very pleased to present LARKS HEAD: A solo exhibition by Sonya Benham. Continuing our series of supporting local emerging artists, LARKS HEAD opens Friday, June 15 from 6:00 - 9:00pm.

LARKS HEAD, Benham's premier solo exhibition in Chicago, brings together the traditional craft of weaving with contemporary design. The artist's use of natural fibers and wood paired with modern built structures results in unique pieces that bridge art and craft.

After the opening reception on June 15, gallery hours will be held in July and August, and artwork can be viewed during business hours of Ampersand Cowork.

A Brew Good Men, Fundraiser and Beer Tasting

A Brew Good Men is a fundraiser honoring the men and women in uniform, and benefiting the Wounded Warrior Project. All proceeds from ticket sales and money raised through our silent auction will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.

480,000 servicemen and women have been physically injured in recent military conflicts. 400,000 are living with invisible wounds, from depression to post-traumatic stress disorder. 320,000 are experiencing debilitating brain trauma. Wounded Warrior Project has a big, audacious goal: to foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded service members in our nation’s history. We're challenging ourselves to help WWP reach this vision, and we need your help.

Guests will also be able to participate in a silent auction of donated items from local breweries. Near the end of the event, we will close the auction and announce the winners.

Please arrive on time. The event starts at 2:00 PM. Cheers!

Must be age 21+ to attend

Jonathan Sangster Workshop

Stop by Ampersand Cowork on Saturday May 5 to see Jonathan Sangster's solo art exhibition TERRA INCOGNITA. This new body of work examines the "unknown territory" that is mapped as a result of the intersection of mechanical and biological actions by the artist. Sangster's pursuit of creating organic visual structures via technology presents itself in this group of new printwork. By physically layering past and present technological processes, the artist embraces mistakes and reclaims failures, while heavily focusing on texture and experimentation. Also included is a collaborative series with Chicago artist Kate Adams, as well as a few of her sculptures. Come have a look!

*****MAY 5 ONLY! Jonathan will host a "texture investigation workshop" utilizing paper, text, and xerox machine manipulation to create abstract imagery and deconstruct human made forms to reveal organic textures. Workshop from 2:00 - 3:00pm.****

Tangla: Sara Goodman solo exhibition

Conceived by Chicago-based artist Sara Goodman, Tangla is the act of trying to imagine the color that does not exist. Artist, poet, curator, VJ and teacher, Goodman creates imagined landscapes and portraits with new and old technology. This solo exhibition, opening Friday, January 19 at Ampersand Cowork, will introduce Tangla via video and works on paper, as well as a virtual reality installation created in collaboration with Violet Forest.

With the proliferation of the home computer, then the internet, followed by social media, Goodman is interested in art produced as a result of this technological evolution. Her influences draw from video artists from the 1960s to present day, current day Glitch Art groups on social media, vapor wave, net art, GIF art, new aesthetic and the Tachyons + and LZX communities.

Goodman is the co-founder of S H R I N E, a Chicago-based artist collective formed with collaborator Jim Jam. S H R I N E is the celebration of obsolete and repurposed technology and promoting interaction with this technology in DIY and gallery settings.

The artist received her MFA in poetry from Columbia College, Chicago, and teaches English, Creative Writing, Film Studies, New Media and Video Art at Fusion Academy High School in Evanston, IL.
